Overview
ExamPrep.ai is trying to create a CPA Study business, but has a 12% retention rate. It has two other competitors and has been bleeding active users to them.
Key Objectives
Do a complete website and UI redesign. Making a simpler and more streamlined user experience. Hopefully leading to higher active user retention.
Goal
The primary objectives of this project were to develop a new user-centric web application for a B2C audience. We estimated a 3-4 month timeline for completion, which included a comprehensive UI overhaul. This process involved extensive user research, creating personas, prototyping, wireframes, information architecture, and design systems, culminating in a fully functional site. My team and I focused on reducing cognitive load for users through visual consistency and helping establish a brand identity for an emerging company. Additionally, we created the visual representation of an AI tutor and developed active e-learning opportunities for studying a 4-part, 16-hour exam.

My Role
1. Help create mockups and visual designs based upon the ideas and feedback of our client and team members.

2. I created most of the low fidelity mock-up sketches, upon guidance from the client to make the final high fidelity UI for ExamPrep.ai

3. I created the Personas used from user research conducted by our team. This helped guide our design decisions.

4. Using a design system created by one of our team designers, I revamped the Review section of the Examprep.ai website to include an AI study companion. This redesign integrates conversational design principles and offers active content engagement opportunities for students.

5. Assist in conducting user interviews and user research to inform and enhance design decisions through data-driven insits.

In-Depth Research

Here is some in-depth research conducted by me and my team:

1

User Research: Extensive qualitative interviews and surveys were conducted with current users with people on multiple continents.

2

Market Analysis: A thorough examination of existing CPA prep sites revealed the current site lacked Identity and was overly complicated compared to it's competitors.

3

Persona Development: Detailed personas were created based on the user research.

4

User Testing: Testing was conducted with current users of the site. Ranging from many varying locations.

Starting Point:
With a team of four spanning three different time zones, we held all meetings virtually over Zoom. In our kickoff meeting, we discussed the client's requirements for our website redesign process. He expressed interest in two main changes to the current platform: Moving the navigation bar from the top to the left, and Incorporating an AI tutor into the platform.

Visual Alignment with the Brand's Mission:

During our design audit, we identified several visual inconsistencies, ranging from typographical hierarchy to color usage, and an overload of UI elements indicating progress. To align with the brand's mission of making studying easier, we created a design system in Figma based on the site's Quasar.js framework to enhance usability.

The system used the Quasar component library, contextualizing colors, and typographical elements within the platform's features. This approach ensured visual consistency across all screens and prepared us for a seamless shipping process.
